DELINEATORS & BASES

A) Delineator Definition and Usage
Traffic delineators are important for safely guiding traffic through confusing construction or potentially hazardous road conditions. They offer visible boundaries for areas to help delineate changes in traffic flow, alerting drivers to special road conditions like curved areas of the road, on and off ramps, and other unexpected road changes or potential safety concerns.

(B) General Delineator Specifications
· The most important requirements of delineators is that they be visible at a distance in normal atmospheric conditions.
· They must be made to withstand vehicle impact and for this reason are typically made of flexible recycled plastic.
· When using Retroreflective sheeting on a delineator, the sheeting stripes should always be at least 3 inches apart.

(C)  Placement and Spacing for Delineators
The correct spacing of delineators may vary anywhere from 20 feet to over 500 feet depending on how they are being used. Delineators on ramps and curves are typically required to be spaced closer together while longer straight stretches of road require fewer delineators. The shorter the radius of the curve, the closer the delineators need to be placed. As a general rule, delineators must be set up so that several delineators are visible at the same time to the driver. Delineators should be placed the same distance from the edge of the road as consistently as possible, unless there is an object obstructing placement. The acceptable standard is typically between 2 to 8 feet.

TRAFFIC CONES

Traffic cones are used to indicate, demarcate, warn or delineate an area. Road cones are also widely used for construction, mining, industry, traffic, police and in the military. Traffic cones are manufactured from flexible high visibility plastic material with the colour moulded into the cone and a base to keep the traffic cone upright and on the road. There are various road cones, the soft PVC range and then the hard plastic moulded road cone. The soft cones are flexible so there is no damage to a vehicle that drives over the cone. The cones Reflective sleeves ensure high visibility at night. These cones are compact, easily stackable and therefore easy to store. The 1.8 metre Barrier Cones, are mainly used at open cast mines. These cones are used to demarcate the edges of open pit roads, as well as to indicate various areas within the mine. The 1.8m cone is a plastic moulded road cone and thus not as impact resistant as the soft PVC cone. Some common uses are:

Traffic Channeling and Control
Demarcation
Road Closures
Road Blocks
Sports Events
Delineation

SOLAR REFLECTIVE ALUMINIUM ROAD STUD

Our Solar Road Stud is a solar powered stud that absorbs the suns warmth in the daylight to operate at night time without conventional power. The Solar Reflective Aluminium Road Stud has two lighting functionalities – flashing or static light. Our Solar Reflective Aluminium Road Studs are available in red, amber and white or combinations thereof. The intense brightness of the LEDs makes them easily visible at distances of about 900 m under favourable conditions.

Solar road studs are flashing solar cell powered LED maintenance-free lighting devices used in road construction to delineate road edges and centrelines. Embedded in the road surface, they are an electronic improvement on the traditional cat’s eyes in that they may give drivers more than a thirty-second reaction window compared with about 3 seconds for conventional reflective devices. The intense brightness of the LEDs makes them easily visible at distances of about 900 m under favourable conditions.
